TOPIC:  This talk will cover Ray Matsumiya’s journey in peacebuilding that spanned from Boston to Beirut to Hiroshima, his current initiatives with Rotary International and conclude with a discussion session on what Rotarians can do for peace. 

BIO:  Inspired by a mother from Hiroshima, Ray has devoted his professional career to unofficial diplomacy, cross-cultural exchange and peacebuilding. For over twenty years, he has designed and supervised dozens of peace programs for thousands of influential participants. These programs have been implemented in nine Middle Eastern/ North African countries, Japan, Spain, and the US in partnership with the US Department of State, UNESCO, the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and others.

Ray has been an invited speaker at the Rotary International Assembly, TEDx, Massachusetts State House, Dayton International Peace Museum, the US embassy of Tunis. He has presented his work at universities such as the Sloan School at M.I.T and the Fletcher School at Tufts University. 

Ray is the Director of Rotary Engagement at the Jubitz Family Foundation and was the lead organizer for the groundbreaking Rotary Peace Park exhibit at the 2023 convention in Melbourne.  Ray received his Master’s degree from the Fletcher School at Tufts University and his BA from Wesleyan University.
