Following is a brief description of the program, In Honor of “Tekeroy” (Kiribati: Hurrah for Peace),and our presenter, Joanne M. Dufour

TOPIC:  This program will be an introduction to the Pacific Island country of Kiribati, which underwent nuclear weapon testing by the UK and US  over 60 years ago. Efforts are underway guided by the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation to establish a Justice Peace Center in pursuit of remuneration for lingering aftereffects in accordance with Articles 6 and 7 of the Treaty for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.

• 40 years in the classroom at high school and college levels as a Social Studies, English as a New Language instructor, and  teacher trainer
• First representative of the National Council for the Social Studies to the United National Non-Governmental Organization community
• International Humanitarian Law Instructor for American Red Cross
• Curriculum Developer for the Newsweek Education Program and UN Department Information
• Author of “Disarming Our Planet” blog for the UN Unitarian Universalist Office
• Co-teacher of “Nuclear Weapons Nowadays: What you Need to Know and Do”
• Supporter of the Treaty for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons
